a \u201crepair man\u201d. Prior to undertaking a degree, apprenticeships offer similar on the job experience, providing an understanding of the environment and demands of the role.<\/p>\n<p>All engineering roles will require you to be able to show these skills:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A high level of understanding and technical knowledge and the ability to apply these skills to solve problems<\/li>\n<li>Good communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Good written communication<\/li>\n<li>The ability to work well within a team environment<\/li>\n<li>Self-motivation<\/li>\n<li>IT skills<\/li>\n<li>Creative flare<\/li>\n<li>The ability to work under pressure<\/li>\n<li>Organisational skills<\/li>\n<li>Good time management<\/li>\n<li>Planning skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While work experience is invaluable most workplaces will have their own way of conducting their business. Having a background working with machinery and software that the company uses is a massive bonus, but joining a new company you will still need to learn how they use it and gain experience over time.<\/p>\n<p>One of the best traits in a mechanical engineer\u2019s arsenal is the drive to learn.
